L&rsquo;objectif principal des recherches men\u00e9es au sein du r\u00e9seau EMIE est d&rsquo;am\u00e9liorer la description et la compr\u00e9hension de la mati\u00e8re aux \u00e9chelles atomique et mol\u00e9culaire. Autour des aspects fondamentaux de la physique mol\u00e9culaire exp\u00e9rimentale et th\u00e9orique, notre communaut\u00e9 est naturellement vou\u00e9e \u00e0 se d\u00e9velopper et s&rsquo;enrichir au contact de disciplines voisines (chimie, biologie) et \u00e0 s&rsquo;ouvrir \u00e0 d&rsquo;autres domaines aux impacts soci\u00e9taux importants (sciences de la vie, sciences de l&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re et l&rsquo;Univers, \u00e9nergie).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">EMIE est organis\u00e9 autour de 2 th\u00e9matiques transverses (M\u00e9thodologie exp\u00e9rimentale et instrumentation ; Approches th\u00e9oriques) et en 4 axe interdisciplinaires (Propri\u00e9t\u00e9s fondamentales et processus \u00e9l\u00e9mentaires dans des syst\u00e8mes mol\u00e9culaires ; Physico-chimie des atmosph\u00e8res plan\u00e9taires et du milieu interstellaire ; Physico-chimie de syst\u00e8mes et processus complexes biomol\u00e9cules, agr\u00e9gats organiques, inorganiques et organom\u00e9talliques, nano-objets ; Interactions et effets d&rsquo;environnements). Nous avons vocation \u00e0 \u00e9largir ce domaine de comp\u00e9tence aux m\u00e9thodes de spectroscopie \u00e0 haute r\u00e9solution, permettant l&rsquo;utilisation des signatures rotationnelles et rovibrationnelles, particuli\u00e8rement robustes pour \u00e9tudier les syst\u00e8mes de petites et moyennes tailles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les transformations mol\u00e9culaires \u00e9tudi\u00e9es explorent des \u00e9chelles de temps vari\u00e9es allant des temps courts, pour traiter les dynamiques \u00e9lectronique et nucl\u00e9aire induites par des excitations br\u00e8ves et intenses (attosecondes-picosecondes), aux temps longs macroscopiques notamment caract\u00e9ristiques des m\u00e9canismes de relaxation lente qui peuvent \u00eatre \u00e9tudi\u00e9s en pi\u00e8ges ou anneaux de stockage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Du point de vue de l&rsquo;\u00e9chelle spatiale, notre communaut\u00e9 couvre aussi un vaste domaine avec des \u00e9tudes sur la r\u00e9activit\u00e9 h\u00e9t\u00e9rog\u00e8ne, les syst\u00e8mes d\u00e9pos\u00e9s, solvat\u00e9s ou en matrice, ou encore les nanoparticules, en identifiant les contributions respectives de l&rsquo;environnement et de l&rsquo;objet d&rsquo;\u00e9tude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">F\u00e9d\u00e9r\u00e9e autour de la physique mol\u00e9culaire fondamentale, notre communaut\u00e9 \u00e9tend son domaine d&rsquo;application vers des disciplines situ\u00e9es au-del\u00e0 de ses propres fronti\u00e8res.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dans le domaine des sciences de l&rsquo;Univers, nos membres participent \u00e0 la caract\u00e9risation d&rsquo;\u00e9difices mol\u00e9culaires pertinents pour les milieux astrophysiques et \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9tude des m\u00e9canismes impliqu\u00e9s dans la physique et la chimie des atmosph\u00e8res. Notre expertise recouvre \u00e9galement l&rsquo;\u00e9tude des m\u00e9canismes de formation, de croissance ou la r\u00e9activit\u00e9 des a\u00e9rosols, les effets d&rsquo;environnement, notamment aux interfaces solides\/gaz, jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 la formation et le devenir des polluants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En sciences de la vie, le GDR EMIE dispose d&rsquo;un savoir-faire bas\u00e9 sur des d\u00e9veloppements en sciences analytiques, en instrumentation et en approches th\u00e9oriques, qui a permis de tisser des liens forts \u00e0 l&rsquo;interface chimie-biologie. Des \u00e9tudes sur l&rsquo;influence de l&rsquo;environnement, par exemple les effets d&rsquo;hydratation sur les mol\u00e9cules biologiques, sont \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper dans ce domaine \u00e9galement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En lien avec le domaine de l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie, nos \u00e9tudes des \u00e9tats mol\u00e9culaires excit\u00e9s peuvent s&rsquo;appliquer \u00e0 la dynamique de mol\u00e9cules photor\u00e9actives, et nous envisageons aussi d&rsquo;aborder des questions concernant la stabilit\u00e9 des hydrates de gaz et des mol\u00e9cules d&rsquo;asphalt\u00e8nes environn\u00e9es.<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The research group Edifices Mol\u00e9culaires Isol\u00e9s et Environn\u00e9s (EMIE, Isolated and Interacting Molecular Assemblies) brings together the French community of physicists and chemists working on molecular systems, and covering a wide range of size and complexity. The objects under scrutiny are either isolated in the gas phase or surrounded by a controlled environment. The main goal of the studies undertaken by EMIE members is to better describe and understand matter at the atomic and molecular scales. Building upon fundamental aspects of experimental and theoretical molecular physics, our community is naturally inclined to benefit from interactions with other disciplines (chemistry, biology) and to extend its fields of applications to other scientific domains with timely societal impacts (biology, atmospheric and universe sciences, energy).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">EMIE is structured with 2 transverse themes (Experimental methods and instrumentation; Theoretical approaches) and 4 interdisciplinary domains (Atmospheric and Universe sciences; Excited states and energy; Biomolecules; Environment effects).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The steering committee&nbsp;is composed of 15 researchers who represent the thematic diversity and the geographical covering of the network:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Experimental Methodology and Instrumentation <\/strong>: Arnaud Cuisset, Benoit Darqui\u00e9, Robert Georges, Sebastien Zamith<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Theoretical approaches<\/strong> : Karine Costuas, Cyril Falvo, Goulven Qu\u00e9m\u00e9ner, Mathias Rapacioli, Ha Tran, Dominika Viglaska, Emilie-Laure Zins<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fundamental properties and elementary processes in molecular systems<\/strong> : Benoit Darqui\u00e9, Cyril Falvo, Goulven Qu\u00e9m\u00e9ner, Mathias Rapacioli, Claire Romanzin<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Physico-chemistry of planetary atmospheres and interstellar environment <\/strong>: Arnaud Cuisset, Robert Georges, Claire Romanzin, Sophie Sobanska, Ha Tran<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Physico-chemistry of complex biomolecule systems and processes, organic, inorganic and organometallic clusters, nano-objects<\/strong> : Marc Briant, Pierre \u00c7ar\u00e7abal, Karine Costuas, Gildas Goldsztejn, Luke MacAleese, Mathias Rapacioli<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Interactions and Effects of Environments <\/strong>: Pierre \u00c7ar\u00e7abal, Stephane Coussan, Manuel Goubet, Sophie Sobanska<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Researchers from the EMIE network contribute to experimental and theoretical methodological developments to characterize molecular assemblies over a wide range of sizes, often by means of frequency- and time-resolved spectroscopic methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the frequency domain, vibrational and electronic spectroscopy are our main source of information on large systems. These skills will be completed in the near future with high-resolution spectroscopy methods, which enable investigating rotational and rovibrational signatures which are particularly robust for studying small and mid-size systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We study molecular transformations such as short timescale electronic and nuclear dynamics induced by fast and intense excitations (atto\/pico-seconds), and also much slower processes occurring at macroscopic timescales, for instance for slow relaxation mechanisms that can be studied in traps or storage rings. In terms of spatial environment, our community also covers a wide range of processes including heterogeneous reactivity, systems that are deposited, solvated or embedded in solid matrices, as well as nanoparticles, with the aim of disentangling the contributions of the environment and of the object itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While being structured around fundamental molecular physics and chemistry, our community also explores the application of its specific expertise beyond its own frontiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the field of Universe sciences, we contribute to the characterization of molecular assemblies relevant in astrophysics, and to the study of mechanisms involved in atmospheric physics and chemistry. We can apply our expertise to aerosols formation, growth and reactivity, to environment effects, including solid\/gas interfaces, and to the formation and evolution of molecular pollutants. In life sciences, our contribution is based on a strong history of developments in analytical sciences, instrumentation and theoretical approaches, which led the creation of strong connections at the biology-chemistry interface.
