The talk is an introduction to the concept of "shortcuts to adiabaticity". They are broadly defined as methods to speed up slow adiabatic protocols to manipulte quantum systems. I shall first provide the motivation, then analyze different methods, and finally discuss examples and applications such as fast expansions, transport, population inversion and coherent control, wavepacket splitting, or mode conversion in optics.
