Coherent control : stopping at one rung of a ladder in NO and manipulation of angular momentum in rubidium

Wim van der Zande Institute for Molecules and Materials, Radboud University Nijmegen, Pays-Bas

After a short introduction of the new FELIX facility Nijmegen, which will combine three Free Electron Lasers operating from 3 micron to 1500 micron, I will present our research on coherent control. The two themes are : is it possible in an open ladder system to stop for 100% at one rung of the ladder ? Secondly : I will present examples of coherent control using phase, amplitude and polarization in the closed three level system of rubidium. Looking at transitions with missing frequencies and creating alignment with linear polarized pulses.
